Long Streaks by Hamilton Send Knights to Defeat, 3-0

Clinton, NY – A streaky offense and a strong service game from the home team kept the Clarkson University Volleyball team off balance on Saturday as the Golden Knights suffered a three-set sweep at the hands of Hamilton College (25-21, 25-13, 25-19).

The Green and Gold fell to 8-10 on the season while Hamilton edged up to 4-9. Clarkson heads to Rochester next weekend to take on RIT on Friday and then University of Rochester on Saturday.

In the opening set, the Continentals started off strong and held the lead until Clarkson recovered to take its first lead at 11-10 on an ace from Natasha Aguirre. Clarkson appeared to have the set in hand with a five-point run that included a pair of aces from Jordyn Leader, putting the Knights up 19-13. Still up by four a few points later, Clarkson gave up the lead to the Continentals, watching Elodie McGeiver record three straight kills. A moment later, another kill from McGeiver gave Hamilton the serve to close out the set, and the Conts ended up ahead 25-21.

It didn't appear as if that momentum had carried over to the second set as Clarkson and Hamilton continued to battle back and forth for most of the early points in game two. A kill from Jordyn Leader and block assists by Leader and Ashley Currier saw Clarkson down by just two near the midway point (14-12), but Hamilton responded with 10 straight points to double up the Knights at 24-12, finishing things off a couple of points later.

Set three saw the Knights get off to a solid start (8-2) but another 10-point run by the Continentals turned a five-point lead into a five-point deficit (14-9). The Knights rallied back a few times, keeping things within four twice thanks to kills from Leader, but Hamilton always had an answer down the stretch, keeping the Green and Gold at a safe distance.

Ashley Currier posted five kills, seven assists, six block assists, and eight digs in the match for the Knights, while Olivia Baxter posted 17 digs. Natasha Aguirre had 10 assists, Conley Burns recorded six kills and 11 digs, Marin Hangliter added four kills and 14 digs, and Jordyn Leader notched five kills, three aces, and four block assists for the Golden Knights.

Elodie McGeiver recorded 12 kills and a .522 hitting percentage, knocking down six kills in the first set. Ayzlinn Trefren added 10 kills and eight digs as well. Splitting setting duties, Lucy Proud has 18 assists and Grace Jansen contributed 13 assists and 10 digs.
