Consolazio In the Top 10, Capoccia 15th for CU Cross Country

Middlebury, VT – Freshman Frank Consolazio and senior Gianna Capoccia headlined the Clarkson University Cross Country team's performance on Saturday morning, as the Golden Knights competed at the Aldrich Invitational hosted by Middlebury College.

The Golden Knights' women placed third among give teams with a score of 79 points, trailing Middlebury (15), Plattsburgh State (59) but ahead of Castleton (98) and Albany College of Pharmacy (incomplete), while the men were second out of six squads with 54 points, behind only Middlebury (15) and ahead of Plattsburgh State (66), Castleton (128), Albany College of Pharmacy (144) and Vermont State Randolph (171).

Capoccia had the top time among any runners that were not on Middlebury, placing 15th overall among 45 runners with a time of 25 minutes, 31.3 seconds over the 6000-meter race. Skylar Francis was next for the Knights in 26:58.3, good enough for 25th place in the field. Clarkson then closed out the team scoring with three runners crossing the finish line consecutively. Megan Edwards was 32nd in 29:20.7, Alexandra Simon was 33rd in 29:45.3, and Kelly Lahiff was 34th in 29:57.5.

On the men's side, Consolazio was a little over a minute off the pace, taking seventh place out of 61 runners, finishing the 8000-meter course in 27:38.4. A little under 30 seconds later, it was another Clarkson runner in eighth place, as Drew Reigelsperger finished in 28:05.6. Tyler Nickels rounded out the top 10 with a time of 28:18.5. Also in the top 20 were Riley Sawyer (16th place, 28:55.9) and James Lynch (17th place, 28:56.8), which closed out Clarkson's scoring five. Evan Baird was in the 20th spot with a time of 29:14.3 and Anthony Fiacco came in 22nd in 29:44.9.
