Reigelsperger Fifth In Season-Opening Cardinal Classic

Plattsburgh, NY – Sophomores Drew Reigelsperger and Skylar Francis had the top times for the Clarkson University Cross Country team as the Golden Knights opened the 2024 season at the Cardinal Classic, hosted by Plattsburgh State.

The Golden Knights' men took third out of five teams with 63 points, narrowly trailing Plattsburgh State for the second spot (58). On the women's side, only three complete teams competed, as the Knights were third in that group with 78 points, behind St. Lawrence (17) and Plattsburgh State (46).

Reigelsperger ran the men's 5000-meter event in 16 minutes, 28.7 seconds, which was good enough for fifth in the field of 71 runners and also just 17.3 seconds off the winning pace. Also standing out in his first collegiate race was Frank Consolazio, as he was the fastest freshman in the field, recording a time of 16:33.4, placing him ninth overall. Two more runners were in the top 20 and four in the top 25 for the Knights. Tyler Nickels came in 17th in 17:12.5 and Anthony Fiacco rounded out the top 20 in 17:16.1. James Lynch was close behind in 23rd in 17:23.0 and Riley Sawyer was one spot lower in 24th in 17:27.3. Concluding Clarkson's top seven was Caleb Tribotte, who took 26th in 17:31.0.

For the women, Skylar Francis was the lone Clarkson runner in the top half of the field of 40, taking the 16th spot in 22:07.5. Just missing out on the top 20 was Alexandra Simon, who came in 21st place in 23:07.2. Kelly Lahiff crossed the finish line about a minute later with a time of 24:03.5, which was good enough for 25th place. Megan Edwards (28th, 24:21.9) and Kylie Nowicki (37th, 26:06.6) closed out Clarkson's scoring five.
