Ithaca's Early Run Sends Knights to 63-46 Loss

Ithaca, NY – Three players finished in double figures for the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team, but the Golden Knights could not dig themselves out of an early hole and fell to Ithaca College 63-46 in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights saw their record drop to 4-19 overall and 2-14 in the Liberty League, while Ithaca improved to 19-4 and 13-3. Clarkson will close out the regular season next weekend when the team hosts Rensselaer and Skidmore.

Ithaca scored the first 15 points of the opening quarter before the Knights got on the scoreboard on a Raelin Burns layup at 3:08. Camryn Coffey's 3-pointer at 5:50 forced the Knights to take a timeout when the score was 9-0, but it took nearly three more minutes before Clarkson got on the board. Just when the Knights seemed to be making some headway, June Dickson hit a 3-pointer at the end of the quarter to put Ithaca up by 12.

Two more modest runs by the Bombers at the start of the second put the Knights in a larger hole, down by 22 near the midway point of the period. However, Clarkson's offense started to click and the Knights would not allow themselves to fall behind any further.

At the start of the third, Clarkson was able to truly get its offense rolling, with Addie Kea hitting a 3-pointer at the 7:38 mark to pull the Knights within 13. The two teams traded baskets over the next four minutes before a Cassidy Dumont jumper pulled Clarkson to within 12 with 3:17 to go in the period. That turned out to be the last gasp, however, as Ithaca ended the quarter on a 9-0 run, capped by an Avery McPeek layup-and-one, to put the margin back at 21 points.

Raelin Burns shot 7-for-10 from the floor for a game-high 14 points, while Addie Kea also was 5-for-10 from the field for 13 points. Bella Doyle also shot 50% from the field at 6-for-12, tossing in 12 points.

For Ithaca, Camryn Coffey finished with 13 points, scoring 11 of her points in the first half. Anya Watkins also recorded 13 points for the Bombers, shooting 6-for-7 from the floor.
