Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Langenegger and Clarkson Defense Claim First Shutout of 2024-25 with 4-0 Blanking of Yale

Potsdam, NY – Locked in another low-scoring game against and ECAC Hockey foe, the Clarkson University Men's Hockey team ended the weekend with a split, gaining a 4-0 victory over Yale University on Saturday afternoon at Cheel Arena.

The Golden Knights improved to 9-4-1 overall and 3-1-0 in league contests, while the Bulldogs dropped to 2-5-1 and 2-3-1. Clarkson will be away from Cheel next weekend, but not too far from home, as the team skates against Providence College and UMass-Lowell at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, NY.

After a tough 1-0 loss to Brown on Friday night, the Golden Knights returned for another tight contest, but came away with another win thanks to a strong defensive effort. It was the fourth consecutive game that the Green and Gold allowed one goal or fewer, all coming against league opponents.

Clarkson ended a 90-minute stretch without a non-empty net goal by getting on the scoreboard first, doing so late in the first period. Tate Taylor carried the puck into the zone and passed to Ray Fust, but Fust's quick shot rang off the post and went behind the net. Luka Sukovic picked up possession and found Erik Bargholtz in the slot just in front of the net, with Bargholtz converting for his first goal of the season.

Following a quiet second period that finished with a 9-5 advantage for the Knights in shots on goal, Clarkson was able to get a key score early on in the third. On a quick transition from the Clarkson defensive end Tristan Sarsland sent a pass up the right side boards to Ellis Rickwood, who quickly dropped a centering pass to Trey Taylor. With a full head of steam, Taylor then whistled a hard wrist shot past Noah Pak at 3:38.

Clarkson would tack on two short-handed goals, one with an empty net, late in the contest. Yale rolled with an extra skater around the three-minute mark, but could not muster anything offensively for a full minute. The Knights were called for a penalty with 1:50 remaining, allowing the Bulldogs to skate 6-on-4, but it was Clarkson that would add to its offensive totals. Garrett Dahm was able to clear the puck and find the back of the net all in one, as his rink long shot crossed the goal line at 18:24 to make it 3-0. Following the next faceoff and with Pak back in the net for the Bulldogs, Clarkson would gain another short-handed goal. Yale had a shot on goal that was saved by Ethan Langenegger and the rebound found Sarsland and Sukovic in the slot. The two then skated up ice with Sarsland pushing it forward to Sukovic and his wrist shot trickled past Pak at 18:52.

Langenegger made 18 saves for his first shutout with the Golden Knights, while Pak stopped 31 shots for Yale. Clarkson ended the game with a 35-18 edge in shots and both teams were scoreless on the power play, though the Knights did have the two short-handed markers.
