Knights Stay Undefeated with 14-8 Win Against Keene State

Davenport, FL – Building a sizeable lead over the first 45 minutes by allowing just two goals, the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team cruised to a 14-8 win over Keene State on Wednesday afternoon at Northeast Regional Park.

The Golden Knights stayed among the nation's unbeaten, moving to 5-0 on the year, while Keene State fell to 1-4. Clarkson will be back at home on Saturday when the team hosts SUNY Geneseo at Hantz Field.

Clarkson outshot the Owls 34-16 through the first three quarters before getting whistled for numerous penalties in the fourth quarter. Keene State spent much of the last period up a player, and took advantage of the extra-man opportunities, scoring four man-up goals to make the final score closer than the game had previously shown.

The Golden Knights had a steady offense throughout the first three period, scoring three times in the first and then scoring six in the second, with all six in the second quarter coming from different players. The Owls were kept off the scoreboard until more than 23 minutes had elapsed from the clock, and one more goal in the final 90 seconds had the tally at 9-2 at halftime.

In the third, Connor Matthews scored both of his goals and Andrew Kearney added his third of the game, as Clarkson's defense continued to deny the Owls. However, Clarkson began the fourth quarter down a player after a late penalty in the third, and the Knights committed five more penalized fouls in the fourth, giving Keene State plenty of chances. Fortunately for the Knights, the 10 goal cushion through three quarters was more than enough to hold up.

Thomas Fiebich, Alex Seiler, and Andrew Kearney each tallied four points, with Kearney scoring three goals. Bryan Penney and Sam Mancabelli each added in three points, and Connor Matthews scored twice. Matthew Hansen won 12 of his 17 tries at the 'x' and grabbed seven groundballs.

For Keene State, Rex Maccarini had a team-high four points on two goals and two assists, and Andrew Miller led the team with three goals. Cooper Cioffi added three points on two goals and an assist. Colby Quiet scored a goal, won nine faceoffs, and produced five groundballs.

Jacob Mattice spent 47:31 in the Clarkson crease and made four saves before being relieved by Eric Gellasch and Griffin Emerson, who combined to make one save over the final 12:29. Charlie Giuliotti stopped nine shots for the Owls. Clarkson led the way in shots (38-32), groundballs (37-33), and faceoffs (15-10).
