Nickels and Chateauneuf Top Runners for CU at Hoffmann Invite

Canton, NY – For the second straight week freshman Nathalie Chateauneuf and sophomore Tyler Nickels were the top runners for the Clarkson University Cross Country team as the Golden Knights competed at the annual Ronald Hoffmann Invitational held on the campus of St. Lawrence University.

The Golden Knights' men finished seventh of eight team with 186 points, trailing St. Lawrence (24), Vassar (60), Plymouth State (99), Middlebury (102), Plattsburgh State (110), and Union (155) but ahead of SUNY Potsdam (249). Clarkson women were seventh among seven complete teams at 195 points, behind St. Lawrence (22), Vassar (42), Middlebury (74), Union (119), Plattsburgh State (148), and Plymouth State (161). SUNY Potsdam ran incomplete with only four runners.

In the men's race, Nickels finished 38th overall among 111 competitors, closing out the 8000-meter event in 28:04.1 with a 5:39 mile pace. Freshman Andrew Wade took second among Clarkson runners, placing 45th in 28:38.7, beginning a small cluster of Golden Knight athletes. Dylan Richard came across the line 11 seconds later in 28:49.5 to take 52nd, and Erick Nowak finished in 28:58.0 for the 55th spot. Clarkson's scoring was completed with Caeden Bailey, who came in 73rd in 30:11.8. The next two runners for the Knights were Derek Ferreira (78th, 30:31.7) and Adam Jansen (81st, 30:42.3).

For the women, Clarkson's top three runners were first-year collegians, as defending Liberty League Rookie of the Week Nathalie Chateauneuf came in 27th in 25:32.8 as the Knights' first finisher. Ava Frost cross the line a few minutes later in 28:41.6, taking 56th, and Meilin Lamanna placed 62nd in 29:27.0. Kylie Nowicki was a few spots later in 66th in 30:32.7 and newcomer Elizabeth Schneider finished 68th in 30:56.9. Sydney Alexanian (72nd, 31:11.6) and Megan Edwards (75th, 31:48.4) were the final runners for Clarkson.
