Geiger Busy With Seven Goals, Knights Post First Shutout Since 2015

Oswego, NY – Junior Sebastian Geiger was virtually unstoppable for the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team on Tuesday, striking for a point in all four quarters as the Golden Knights cruised to their fifth shutout in program history with a 13-0 victory over Oswego State.

The Golden Knights improved to 4-0 on the young season while Oswego State fell to 1-2. Clarkson will face another SUNYAC foe on Friday, taking on SUNY Geneseo, before heading to Florida.

It was Clarkson's first shutout since 2015, when the Knights blanked St. John Fisher 14-0. The shutout was also only the second in the last 55 seasons. Jacob Mattice was especially strong in the Clarkson crease with 15 saves.

Clarkson took advantage of numerous penalties on the Lakers, with several due to conduct such as offsides, too many players, and illegal equipment. The Knights converted on five of their 12 chances with an extra player.

The Knights scored five times in the first quarter, including two while a man-up, and then added another man-up goal at the start of the second to take a 6-0 lead. Mattice's effort in the crease proved valuable as he made four saves in the second quarter and then added six more in the third to keep Oswego from having any hopes of a comeback. Meanwhile, Geiger was particularly busy in the third quarter, scoring four of the Knights' five goals. By the fourth period, the Knights were more concerned with burning the clock, scoring twice on three shots on goal.

Geiger scored nine points with seven goals and two assists to go along with three groundballs for the Knights. Matt Reilly chipped in two goals and two assists and Thomas Fiebich assisted on four goals. Matthew Hansen won 10-of-15 face-offs and led the team with five groundballs. Mason Volley caused two turnovers and had a groundball as well. For Oswego State, Aiden Kenyon did what he could to keep the game close, making 19 saves on 32 shots on goal.

Clarkson finished the contest with a 68-24 advantage in shots and a 32-15 lead in shots on goal. The Knights also led groundballs (27-20) and were successful on 22 of 24 clear attempts.
