Knights Offense Explodes in 24-5 Win Over SUNY Canton

Potsdam, NY – The bats were alive on Wednesday for the Clarkson University Baseball team against SUNY Canton, as the Golden Knights pushed 24 runs across in eight at bats to claim a 24-5 victory over SUNY Canton at Jack Phillips Stadium.

The Golden Knights snapped a six-game losing streak with the victory while SUNY Canton fell to 2-12. Clarkson opens up Liberty League play this weekend when the team heads to Union College for a three-game set.

Clarkson was quiet in the first, but the team put up crooked numbers in five of the next seven at bats. The Knights pushed five runs across in the second and then five more in the third. In the second, with two runners on, Zachary Carpin opened things up with a three-run homer, plating both Mike Nee and Tommy Bianchi. Colby Brouillette later drove one in with a sac fly and then Mike Nee drew a bases loaded walk to force another run home. The next inning, John Young scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-0 and began another rush of offense. Brouillette drove in a pair with a single, Kent Wilson singled in another run, and then Mike Nee doubled home the 10th run of the contest.

SUNY Canton scored a pair in the top of the fourth, but Clarkson was far from finished. Sean Eddington hit a solo homer in the bottom half of the inning and then two more came in for the Knights in the fifth off sac flies from Carpin and Michael Tito.

The game really blew open in the sixth when the Knights scored nine runs. Eddington doubled in two and then Jonathan Irons, Brouillette, Danny Cantor, and Jake Millich each drove in a run with base hits. Eddington closed out Clarkson's scoring in the eighth as Eddington drove in two more runs with a single.

Eddington went 3-for-4 in two runs scored and five more driven in while Cantor was 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Brouillette and Carpin also each drove in four runs. Joseph Godomsky picked up the win in an abbreviated start, striking out two and allowing just one runner in three innings.
