Clarkson Offense Running Strong Again in 22-5 Win Over Keene State

Davenport, FL – With 10 goals in the first quarter and 17 in the first half, the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team put together a sizeable lead in the opening 30 minutes and sailed through the last two quarters as the team gained a 22-5 victory over Keene State on Tuesday afternoon at Northeast Regional Park.

The Golden Knights improved to 6-0 on the season while the Owls dropped to 3-2. Clarkson will face College of Wooster on Friday afternoon before returning to New York.

Less than six minutes into the contest, the Golden Knights had a 6-0 lead, with Sebastian Geiger having a hand in four of the scores on two goals and two assists. Keene State rallied to score two midway in the first period, but that was all the Owls would get, as Geiger scored three more goals in the first quarter and Andrew Kearney tossed one with 13 seconds to go to put the Knights up 10-2 through the opening 15 minutes.

Clarkson didn't slow up much in the second as Geiger scored two more goals in the first 10 minutes of the quarter to help put the Knights up 14-2. Three goals in the final five minutes, including one from Tyler Hall in the last minute of the half, built the advantage to 15 goals and the Knights slid through the second half on cruise control.

Geiger finished with nine points on seven goals and two assists, all coming in the first half, while Matt Reilly notched three goals and three assists for six points. Connor Matthews had two goals, two assists, and four groundballs and Thomas Fiebich also recorded four assists. Tyler Hall and Brendan Tersolo also had three points each with two goals and an assist apiece. Matthew Hansen went 17-for-22 on faceoff attempts and also scooped up eight groundballs. Vincent Calabria recorded five groundballs and Max Hoffer added four groundballs. Shane Boehmcke caused two turnovers and added three groundballs.

Four players saw time in the Clarkson crease, with Jacob Mattice getting the start and making six saves in the first 30 minutes. Matt Yonko stopped two shots in the third, Henry O'Brien made three saves in 11 minutes, and Eric Gellasch spent the last four minutes in goal for Clarkson.

For Keene State, Joe Nutting recorded three assists. Chase Chamberlin made five saves in the first 18 minutes and Baylor Bridges stopped 10 shots over the final 42 ticks of the clock.
