Ithaca Runs Away from Knights in Second Half, 65-32

Ithaca, NY – For the first 20 minutes of Friday night's game, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team stuck with Ithaca College, but a scoreless third quarter ended any chance of an upset for the Golden Knights as Clarkson fell to the Bombers 65-32.

Clarkson fell to 5-15 overall and 4-10 in the Liberty League, while Ithaca stayed in the race for the top seed in the Liberty League at 18-3 and 13-1. The Golden Knights will play a key game on Saturday against Rensselaer to stick in the mix for the final playoff spot in the conference.

Ithaca got off to a hot start and led by five just three minutes into the game. The Bombers then received 10 straight points from Cara Volpe, but Clarkson was able to keep up, even taking the lead briefly after Mariah Benavides hit a 3-pointer at the 2:49 mark. The Bombers quickly regained the lead and extended their advantage to as many as eight points after an Emily Dorn layup at the 7:53 mark of the second quarter. From there, however, the Knights would maintain Ithaca's pace and kept things close thanks to a jumper from Cassidy Dumont in the final minute, making the score 30-24 at the break.

Clarkson actually had a better field goal percentage in the first half compared to Ithaca, shooting 41.7% to the Bombers' 37.1%, but Ithaca controlled the boards with a 24-13 rebounding advantage, including 12 on the offensive glass.

Everything changed for the Knights in the third quarter as the team struggled offensively, going 0-for-14 from the floor with seven turnovers while Ithaca shot 50.0% from the field with 20 points. Up by 26 points through 30 minutes of play, Ithaca cruised through the fourth for the win.

Ithaca led in rebounding 51-26 overall, including nearly as many offensive rebounds (19) as Clarkson had in defensive rebounds (20).

Four different players scored six points for Clarkson, including Maddie Pratt, Ruthie Nolan, Raine Tweedy, and Cassidy Dumont. Nolan also contributed six rebounds. For Ithaca, Emily Dorn scored 16 points on 6-for-7 shooting in just 14 minutes.
