Golden Knights Drop Semester Finale to St. John Fisher

Potsdam, NY – Early foul trouble and a deficit on the boards put the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team in an early hole from which it could not recover, as the Golden Knights fell to St. John Fisher 86-45 on Friday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights saw their record fall to 2-5 overall while St. John Fisher improved to 7-2 on the season. Clarkson now has more than three weeks off before the team returns to action in early January against SUNY Poly.

Although turnovers were roughly the same in the first half, the Cardinals took advantage of their size on the interior, gaining eight offensive rebounds and holding a 24-8 edge on the boards overall in the first half. In the early going, a Cassidy Dumont 3-pointer kept Clarkson close (14-7), but the Cardinals responded with a 3-pointer at the other end and finished the quarter on a 9-2 run. That streak continued in the second quarter as the Knights went more than seven minutes without a point. In that time St. John Fisher was able to extend its advantage to 33 with continued pressure in the back court. Clarkson's short bench was also put on alert, as the Knights had three players commit three fouls or more in the opening half, limiting starter minutes.

Kaitlyn Walker and Sidney Tomasso each scored 12 points in the first half for the Cardinals, with Walker also adding four rebounds. For Clarkson, Cassidy Dumont had nine points, going 4-for-8 from the field, and Mariah Benavides chipped in seven points in the opening 20 minutes.

For most of the third quarter the game was played evenly, but the Cardinals ended the period with a 7-0 run for their biggest lead of the ball game. St. John Fisher utilized its bench further in the fourth quarter as both teams piled on points, each surpassing more than 20 in the period, but the gap was too far much for the Knights to overcome.

Dumont finished with 18 points on 8-for-17 shooting and also added in five rebounds, while Mariah Benavides tossed in 14 points, going 5-for-11 from the floor. Raelin Burns also came in off the bench to score eight points.

For St. John Fisher, Kaitlyn Walker scored 20 on 8-for-13 shooting from the floor and Sidney Tomasso added 18 points, with each adding in six rebounds. Claire Kruszka scored 15 points, going 6-for-10 from the floor with six rebounds and three steals, and Lauren Nawojski contributed 13 points and six rebounds in just 12 minutes of action.
