XC2022action

Cross Country | 11/10/2022 12:20:00 PM

The site of the NCAA Mideast Regionals will be a familiar spot for the Clarkson University Cross Country team, as the Golden Knights head down Route 11 Saturday to compete on the Ronald C. Hoffmann Cross Country Course on the campus of St. Lawrence University.

The event might see sloppy conditions as rain from a tropical storm may impact the course Friday evening. The women's race is set to start at 11:00 am and the men's race at 12:00 noon

The Women: Clarkson will have just fill out the seven slots open for the race as the Golden Knights continue to struggle with injuries. Nathalie Chateauneuf was the Green and Gold's top female runner at the Liberty League Championships and should be the first finisher for Clarkson on Saturday. In her two 6000-meter events this year she has been consistent with her times, averaging 25 minutes, 30.15 seconds. The next top average time for Clarkson is held by Meilin Lamanna, who has averaged 29:18 in three 6K races, including a 28:36.8 at the Liberty League Championships. Clarkson's other five participants have all averaged more than 30 minutes per event, including Kylie Nowicki, Megan Edwards, Sydney Alexanian, Elizabeth Schneider, and Madison Witt. Witt was the lone Clarkson participant to not run at St. Lawrence's course back in September.

The Men: The Golden Knights have a full roster for the NCAA Regional, with seven runners and three alternates ready to go. The top two runners for the Knights are likely to be Tyler Nickels and Eric Nowak in some order. Nickels has the best average time in 8000-meter events this year at 27:55, but Nowak has been Clarkson's leading runner in each of the last two races, including the Liberty League Championships and Cross Country-Only Championships. Nowak's average time this season is 28:04.6. Two other runners could sneak into the top two, with Dylan Richard averaging 28:16 and Andrew Wade finishing off 8Ks in 28:19 this year. Caeden Bailey's first run at St. Lawrence was over 30 minutes, but he has averaged less than 29 minutes over 8000-meters his last three races. Evan Baird, Derek Ferreira, Patrick Murray, Dennis Raffay, and Mason Rosborough all have 8K averages of just over 30 minutes.
