Chateauneuf and Nowak Lead Knights at Liberty League Cross Country Championships

Poughkeepsie, NY – Senior Eric Nowak and freshman Nathalie Chateauneuf led the Clarkson University Cross Country team's charge on Saturday as the Golden Knights competed at the Liberty League Championships, held at Vassar Farm on the campus of Vassar College.

The Golden Knights' women placed eighth among eight complete teams (Bard was an incomplete score) with 241 points. Clarkson's men were one spot better, taking seventh among nine teams with 203 points. The team will get a weekend off before competing in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regionals, which will be held at St. Lawrence University.

In the women's 6000-meter race, freshman Nathalie Chateauneuf had the top time for the Golden Knights, coming in 54th among 94 participants with a time of 25 minutes, 27.5 seconds. Classmate Meilin Lamanna was the next Clarkson runner to cross the finish line, taking 79th in 28:36.8. The Knights then ran in a bit of a pack to close out the race. Kylie Nowicki came in 87th in 31:10.0 and was followed closely by Sydney Alexanian (31:11.9) in 88th. Madison Witt then took 89th in 31:36.0 and Megan Edwards was 90th with a time of 31:49.0.

Nowak was the top runner for the second straight race for the Knights, as the senior came in 46th place out of 109 runners with a time of 27:12.0 over the course of 8000 meters. He barely edged out teammate Tyler Nickels, who took 47th, with a time of 27:14.3, as Nickels second half of the race was just a seven/tenths of a second slower than his first 4000 meters. Andrew Wade was next for the Knights in 28:02.3, putting him in 63rd. Dylan Richard and Caeden Bailey closed out Clarkson's team score, as Richard came in 71st (28:33.1) and Bailey was 75th (28:47.5). Clarkson's next two were Evan Baird and Derek Ferreira, with Baird finishing in 29:52.9 for 87th place and Ferreira crossing the line in 29:58.6 for the 89th spot.
