Lopol and Kohls Each Score Twice in Clarkson's 4-1 Win Over Bard

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY – Junior Maddie Lopol scored the first two goals and senior Sarah Kohls scored the last two as the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team defeated Bard College 4-1 to complete the weekend sweep in Liberty League play on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights improved to 7-5-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the Liberty League, while the Raptors dropped to 3-10-1 and 0-7-0. Clarkson hosts its final three games of the regular-season, beginning with Union College next Saturday.

It took just 10 minutes for the Golden Knights to get on the scoreboard against the Raptors. Bard had a goal kick and sent the ball into the middle of the field where Maddie Lopol was able to intercept the pass, and she took a few steps in space before firing a shot from roughly 25 yards out into the top of the net at 10:10 to put the Knights up 1-0.

That first goal was all Clarkson would get in the opening half, but the Knights were busy in the second period. Just two and a half minutes into the second half, Lopol again was able to score, accepting a pass in the middle of the box and lifting a shot in traffic from about 15 yards out to give the Knights a 2-0 advantage.

Bard would rally about seven minutes later and trim the deficit to one when Emma Kuntz chipped a shot in from about 20 yards out. Molly DiCaprio came out to cut down the angle on the shot and got her fingertips on the ball to slow the shot down, but neither her nor a Clarkson defender could race back to the goal line in time to keep the ball from going in.

The Green and Gold responded less than a minute later, however, and quickly reclaimed their two-goal advantage. Chloe Hodge picked up her fifth assist of the season when she sent a cross into the box and Sarah Kohls was able to head the ball into the opposite corner at 55:34. Kohls provided an insurance goal in the 80th minute as she converted off a pass from Arin Bates, scoring from about 10-yards out in the middle of the box to give Clarkson a 4-1 lead.

Clarkson finished with a 22-7 advantage in shots and a 12-5 edge in shots on goal while also leading in corners, 6-1. Molly DiCaprio made one save in a little under 67 minutes before being relieved by Elise Almgren, who stopped three shots over the final 23-plus minutes. Bard's goalkeeper Sam Finn made eight stops.
