CU Cross Country Preview - at Cross Country-Only Championships (10/15)

The first of three championship meets will take place this weekend for the Clarkson University Cross Country team, as the Golden Knights head to the Finger Lakes looking to defend their title at the Cross Country-Only Championships held at Seneca Lake State Park (hosted by Hobart and William Smith Colleges).

The Course

The History: The Golden Knights have dominated the CCOC event for the past few years, with the Clarkson women winning six years in a row as well as having the top runner for six consecutive races. The Golden Knights' men have won four straight races at the CCOC, including back-to-back individual victories from Kevin Cronin in 2019 and 2021 (no race in 2020). Overall, the Clarkson women have won seven titles since the inaugural race in 2005 with eight individual winners (including two-time champion Sarah Duclos), and the men have won 10 titles at the CCOC with seven individual winners (including repeat champions Kevin Cronin and Alex Benway).

The Runners: Last year's women's race saw the Golden Knights take the top three spots, and four of the top five, but those top three runners have either graduated or suffered injuries that will likely keep them out of the event. Clarkson's best hope for the women's event is likely Nathalie Chateauneuf, as the first-year collegian has led the Golden Knights in the last three races. Clarkson's men were even more dominant at the 2021 CCOC, taking seen of the top eight spots. Eric Nowak was third in the event (28:10.0) and Tyler Nickels was fourth (28:36.4), while Dylan Richard (seventh) and Riley Sawyer (eighth) also performed impressively at the championship meet.
