Knights Fall Versus Ithaca, 67-44

Potsdam, NY – Freshman Cassidy Dumont scored 11 points off the bench, but the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team fell to Ithaca College 67-44 in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights saw their record fall to 2-11 overall and 1-6 in conference games, while the Bombers improved to 10-3 and 6-1. Clarkson continues its run of home games on Tuesday when it faces local rival St. Lawrence University.

At the start of the contest, the teams played essentially even, but over the course of the last four minutes of the first period, Ithaca extended a modest one-point advantage to seven. Back-to-back 3-pointers from Hannah Polce and Natalie Smith extended the margin to 13, as Clarkson struggled to make shots in the second quarter. By the end of the period, the Knights were just 1-for-13 from the field against the Bombers' 9-for-16, trailing by 22 at the break.

The beginning of the third saw Clarkson rally thanks to a run of free throws and some makes from the perimeter. Mariah Benavides hit a pair of 3-pointers while both Lauryn Withrow and Elaina Porter had three makes from the line, but Clarkson was unable to trim the margin below 16. The two teams also played close in the fourth quarter, but the margin hovered in the low 20s throughout, as Ithaca cruised to the win.

Freshman Cassidy Dumont led the Golden Knights with 11 points on 5-for-12 shooting, accomplishing the feat in just under 30 minutes off the bench. Lauren Bell grabbed 11 rebounds while both Benavides and Porter also chipped in nine points.

For Ithaca, Grace Cannon was 9-for-13 from the floor for a game-high 19 points. Melissa Buxton was the only other player in double figures for the Bombers, scoring 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting in less than 20 minutes of action.
