Yorkey and Nickels Lead Knights at Plattsburgh Invitational

Plattsburgh, NY – Senior Hannah Yorkey and freshman Tyler Nickels led the way for the Clarkson University Cross Country team, as the Golden Knights opened up with a second-place and third-place finish, respectively, at the Plattsburgh Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights' women took second among five teams with 47 points, trailing St. Lawrence (21) but ahead of Plattsburgh State (67), SUNY Potsdam (122), and Paul Smiths (123). The Clarkson men took third in a field of six with 81 points, behind St. Lawrence (15) and Plattsburgh State (52) and ahead of SUNY Potsdam (127), Clinton Community College (139), and Paul Smiths (151).

Each team ran the short course, consisting of 5000 meters, where Yorkey took third in the field of 52 runners with a time of 19 minutes, 36.7 seconds, less than 15 seconds off the pace. Freshman Kelsey Hamilton ended up in sixth in 20:06.0 and senior Elizabeth Fawwaz came in seventh in 20:20.2. Rounding out Clarkson's scoring were freshman Ella Weldy (18th, 21:28.5) and senior Sarah Weeks (21st, 21:40.9). Just outside the top five for the Knights were seniors Gabriella Broga (26th, 22:15.0) and Kathryn Konopko (28th, 22:34.5).

Clarkson's men were more tightly placed in the final standings, with Tyler Nickels pacing the Knights. The freshman placed 16th in the field of 65 runners in 17:08.7. Senior Angus Cropley crossed the finish line 12 seconds later and was 20^th in 17:20.4. Trailing him by less than two seconds was Eric Nowak (22nd, 17:22.2), and Nowak was followed by Simon Zehr (24th, 17:30.3) and Dylan Richard (26th, 17:47.0) to close out Clarkson's scoring. Riley Sawyer (32nd, 18:23.4) and Derek Ferreira (33rd, 18:38.3) were the next two for the Knights.
