Yorkey and Nowak Top Clarkson Runners at Hoffman Invite

Canton, NY – Hannah Yorkey and Eric Nowak led the way for the Clarkson University Cross Country team as the Golden Knights finished near the top of the standings at the Hoffmann Invitational Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights' women placed second among the four complete teams with 50 points, trailing St. Lawrence (20) but ahead of Plattsburgh State (68) and Utica College (106), while the men ended up in the middle of the pack in third place with 77 points, behind St. Lawrence (20) and Plattsburgh State (62) but with fewer points than Clinton Community College (110) and Utica College (120).

Yorkey led the Knights for the third time in as many races this year, closing out the 6,000-meter event with a time of 23 minutes, 47 seconds for second place in the field of 50 runners, roughly 37 seconds off the pace of the lead runner but 21 seconds ahead of the third-place finisher. Elizabeth Fawwaz came in sixth in 24:22 as the pack started to bunch together, while Kelsey Hamilton was 10th in 24:50. A little further down the list was Ella Weldy, who placed 16th in 25:31, while Sarah Weeks came in 20th in 26:12 to close out the Clarkson scoring. Gabriella Broga was one spot behind Weeks in 21st, with a time of 26:16, and Kathryn Konopko crossed the finish line in 24th in 26:21.

On the men's side, Eric Nowak came in 12th among the collegiate field of 54 runners, closing out the 8,000-meter race in 28:19. Clarkson's runners were much closer together in their finishes compared to the women, as Tyler Nickels ended up in 16th in 28:41, beginning a run of six Golden Knights in 11 spots. Simon Zehr and Angus Cropley finished back-to-back in 20th and 21st, with times of 29:01 and 29:07, respectively, and Clarkson's team scoring was finished by Riley Sawyer, who crossed in 24th in 29:30. Alex Bianconi and Dylan Richard were the runners in reserve for scoring purposes, coming 25th and 26th in 29:43 and 29:47, respectively.
