Knights Dominate at Oswego, Roderick Scores Nine Points

Oswego, NY – Junior Sydney Roderick enjoyed her best game of the season by notching nine points as the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team cruised to a 18-4 non-league win over Oswego State on Wednesday afternoon.

The Golden Knights ended a four-game losing streak with the win and moved to 2-5 on the season while Oswego fell to 3-2. Clarkson will take on St. Lawrence in a home-and-home, heading to Canton on Friday and playing at Hantz Field on Saturday.

Clarkson overwhelmed Oswego in the first half with 12 goals, including five in the first 10 minutes. Sydney Roderick was busy, scoring twice and assisting on one among the first five goals, and the Knights pushed their advantage to 10-0 and a running block by the 11:03 mark when Kyrsten Stone scored on a free-position shot. Celia Fitzgerald and Grace Hagberg scored in the final minutes of the first half to put the Knights up 12-0, as Clarkson held a 17-5 edge in shots, a 14-3 lead in shots on goal, and an 11-3 advantage in groundballs.

The second half was more of the same, as Clarkson took advantage of Oswego penalties, scoring three player-up goals in the first five minutes of the half. Oswego finally got on the board at 20:24 on a free-position shot, but Julia Lavarnway scored twice to make the score 18-1. Oswego scored three goals in the final 10 minutes to close the gap slightly.

Nine different players scored at least one goal for the Golden Knights, with Roderick leading the way with three goals and six assists. Grace Hagberg found the back of the net four times, Kyrsten Stone scored four points on two goals and two assists, and Katie Sergeant contributed three goals. Madelyn Barnum scored once and also tossed in three groundballs, four draw controls, and three caused turnovers. Hagberg chipped in four draws and McKenzie Tikalsky also added three groundballs.

Carolynn Pechmann made three saves in a scoreless first half for the Knights, and Sydney Christiansen stopped five shots in the second half for Clarkson.
