Miles-Ferguson and Gearhart Combine for 39 in Loss at Oswego State, 82-67

Oswego, NY – Junior Ryan Miles-Ferguson produced a double-double and classmate Blake Gearhart backed him up with 18 points, but the duo's efforts were not enough for the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team as the Golden Knights dropped their third road game in five days, this time losing to Oswego State 82-67 on Tuesday evening.

Clarkson looks to get on track this weekend closer to home, as the team is scheduled to host SUNY Canton on Friday and then head down Pierrepont Avenue to face SUY Potsdam on Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Knights struggled from the perimeter again, shooting just 9-for-37 from beyond the 3-point arc. Oswego wasn't much better, but the Lakers altered their game plan in the second half and took only two shots from the 3-point line, focusing on an inside effort to make up for their shortcomings from outside.

Oswego built a modest five-point lead (15-10) midway through the first half, only to see Clarkson quickly trim the deficit. The Knights took a few one-point leads a few minutes later, but Oswego was able to limit the rally, seesawing back and forth with the Knights for the small advantage. With the two teams tied at 25-25 after a Blake Gearhart layup at 2:23, Oswego went on a 9-3 run to end the half, including a last second make from Brendan Mulson to put the Lakers up by six at the break.

The Lakers came out of the locker room strong on offense, building a 15-point lead in just over three minutes after a jumper and free throw by Jeremiah Sparks at 16:48 made it 48-33. Oswego would extend its lead to as many as 19, but Clarkson came rushing back to pull within single digits. Ryan Miles-Ferguson had a three-point play with a jumper and free throw at 7:59, and two minutes later Frankie Rainville nailed a 3-pointer to pull Clarkson within seven (71-64). However, that was the last big run for the Knights, as Oswego held Clarkson to only three points the rest of the way for the victory.

Miles-Ferguson scored 21 points and added 13 rebounds, all on the defensive end, for his first double-double of 2021, while Gearhart added 18 points on 7-for-12 shooting. For Oswego, four finished in double figures, led by Jeremiah Sparks 18 points. Kaleb Cook and Julien Crittenden each added 15 points and Brendan Mulson scored 12 points in 22 minutes off the bench.
