With a veteran group that had the benefit of playing nine games last year while others cancelled their seasons, the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team has its sights set on a deep playoff run in the Liberty League in 2021-22.

The Golden Knights, led by eighth-year head coach Jeff Gorski and assistants Jacob Ries and Doug Mayer, lost just one player to graduation and not only have a few players back for a fifth season but are also returning a pair of players who stayed home during the COVID-shortened campaign. The Green and Gold boast enviable depth and have a group of players that were lucky enough to get extra time to mesh last winter in games.

Points came a variety of places last year with several different players leading the team in points from game to game, but senior Chris Hulbert and junior Blake Gearhart were the most frequent names at the top of the scoresheet. Hulbert led the team with 14.0 points per game, shooting 37.3% from beyond the 3-point arc, while Gearhart contributed 13.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per contest, also shooting 52.9% from the field overall and 47.2% from the 3-point line. Grad student Joe Lucas also averaged just under 10 points per contest, as he hit 22 3-pointers in nine games, with three-quarters of his points coming on long-range shots.

Clarkson has shooters of all sizes and positions (38.1% 3-point field goal percentage as a team in 2021, 12.8 3-pointers made per game), including fifth-year Roburt Welch, who once scored 20 points in a stretch of six minutes against RIT in February 2000. Senior forward Reese Swedberg is a tough match-up for most, as his 6-7 frame nearly posted a double-double last year (9.6 ppg, 8.1 rpg) while playing both inside and out. Junior point guard Dante Joefield is one of the team's top playmakers and defenders, averaging 6.9 points and 3.6 assists per game.

Also adding to the Clarkson depth are returning players Ryan Miles-Ferguson and Teddy Fravel. Miles-Ferguson is an athletic, slashing guard who can take anyone in the league off the dribble, while Fravel put on plenty of muscle in his year off and could be a force underneath.

Clarkson has plenty of other returning depth as well, including junior point guard Nick Budesheim and senior forward Marques Bouyer, as both will be looked to for minutes off the bench. Sophomores Frankie Rainville, Gabe Murphy, Malachi Harris, and Garrett Delaney won't be traditional second-year players looking to make the jump, but they will have a leg up on most other sophomores in the region as they each were able to get some game play under their belts a year ago.

The Green and Gold also added five more to the roster roll, including forwards Sean Enelamah, Jack Dalgety, and Finn Cork and guards Matteo Sinon and Mathew Parent.
