Knights Rally for 1-1 Tie Against RIT

Potsdam, NY - Two nearly identical goals and two nearly identical near misses were the highlights on Saturday as the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team and RIT finished up knotted in a 1-1 tie in Liberty League action at Hantz Field.

The Golden Knights saw their overall mark move to 2-4-2 and the conference record go to 0-1-2. RIT moved to 4-2-3 and 0-1-2 in league games. Clarkson has a pair of road games next week, heading to St. Lawrence on Tuesday and then making a longer trip to William Smith on Saturday.

After a relatively quiet first half, the Tigers opened the scoring near the midway point of the second frame, picking up a goal off a corner kick. Morgan Monteith sent a cross into the penalty area from the far corner and found foot of Jessica Wagner at the 65:01, just deflecting off her past Clarkson goalkeeper Molly DiCaprio.

Clarkson scored in almost exactly the same fashion 13 minutes later. Again from the far side, Julia Cascone sent a lower cross through the area, just missing a few heads to find Alexis Billings at the opposite post where she converted at 78:22.

The Knights nearly took the lead about five minutes later as a blast off the right foot of Chloe Hodge went off the crossbar with just under seven minutes remaining in regulation. RIT had a similar attempt in the first overtime as Jessica Wagner hit a shot that caught the underside of the crossbar and bounced almost directly down, but DiCaprio was able to cover up before anyone of the Tigers could convert off the loose ball.

RIT ended with a 12-7 edge in shots (5-3 shots on goal) and a 6-1 lead in corner kick chances. DiCaprio made four saves for the Knights and Darcie Jones stopped a pair of shots for the Tigers.
