Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Knights win a thriller in OT

Late 3rd period goal ties game

With 2:01 left to go in the game the Clarkson Men's Hockey team called time out, down 3-2 with a face off inside the Mercyhurst Zone.  Coach Casey Jones pulled the goalie at that time out and the Knights were able to tie the game at the 18:23 mark when Anthony Callin was able to jam home a goal after a loose puck scramble in front.  The Knight then went into a new OT format of 3 v 3 for 5 minutes.  Two minutes into the OT, Noah Kane of Mercyhurst was called for tripping and on the ensuing Power Play, Connor McCarthy connected on a slap shot that went just under the bar and propelled the Knights to an OT win.

Mercyhurst took the lead on a power play goal midway thru the first, but the Knights answered back 17 seconds later, when Mathieu Gosselin scored from Kaelan Taylor.  The Knights got a big goal from a player that has quickly become a favorite in the Locker Room.  Charlie Campbell tapped home a rebound at 12:42 of the second, giving the Knights the lead.  Mercyhurst was able to answer back to tie the game heading into the third.

The Knights start to have the long puck possession shifts that created chances and forced Mercyhurst into the box, but late in the third, Mercyhurst took the lead, which lead to the exciting finish.

Kris Oldham made 24 saves in his 4 start of the season.  The Knights held a slight advantage on the draws, 35 to 34.  Clarkson gave up a power play goal on the Lakers only chance and went 1 for 4 on the power play which proved to be the game winner.

The Knights will face off again tomorrow against Mercyhurst at 4:00 pm.
