This fall, the Clarkson University Athletic Department will shine some light on some of the outstanding careers of athletes from the last few decades with the Golden Knight Alumni Spotlight. Check back every Wednesday for a new feature on some of the best to wear the Green and Gold.

While winning the Cross Country-Only Championship race has become a little more routine for the Clarkson University Women's Cross Country team in recent years, when the event first began in the early 2000s, it was more up in the air. While the Golden Knights' didn't claim the overall title in 2006, Janine Laskoski was closing out one of the best seasons ever for a women's runner in her senior season.

The most impressive part of Laskoski's season was that it was only her second year running with the cross country program at Clarkson, and the leaps that she made from her junior year proved some of the most remarkable for any runner wearing the Green and Gold. Laskoski became the second Clarkson runner to win the Cross Country-Only Championships in 2006, an improvement of five places from her previous season, but the largest vault came in the NCAA Atlantic Regionals. As a junior in 2005, Laskoski took 101st place, but as a senior she came in 35th place, the third best finish by any Clarkson female in the 21st century, trailing only Mary Rhoads (21st, 2004) and Abigail Sullivan (7th, 2018).

Laskoski was the top runner for the Knights in all eight races in 2006, finishing outside the top 10 in only the NCAA Atlantic Regionals and the Albany Invitational, a race which featured Division I, Division II, and Division III teams. Additionally, her time (19:19) at the 2006 CCOC remains the ninth fastest time in the history of the event.
