ECAC Hockey Tournament Champions, the Clarkson University Men's Hockey team also excelled in the classroom and was one of just five conference programs and is among an elite group of nine overall in NCAA Division I men's hockey to be honored by the NCAA for ranking in the top 10 percent in Academic Progress Rate.

The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term.

Clarkson was one of five teams, along with Colgate, Connecticut, Minnesota and Yale, which had perfect four-year average APR scores of 1,000 - Updated May 8, 2019. NCAA release

Seventy-five percent of all teams (45 of 60) had four-year APR scores of at least 980 and more than half (35 of 60) have scores of at least 989.

The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for Division I sports teams nationally. Teams must meet a certain academic threshold to qualify for postseason competition and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.

The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or quarter and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in each sport. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2014-15 through the 2017-18 academic years.

Each year, the NCAA honors selected NCAA Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate. This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports. Specifically, these teams posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport. This year's release will again include recognition in the sport of football by subdivision (i.e., Football Bowl Subdivision and NCAA Football Championship Subdivision).

The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.

Multiyear APRs for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition, will be announced May 8.

Clarkson is joined by ECAC Hockey programs - Colgate, Yale, Brown and Princeton. The other schools with men's hockey programs to be named are UConn, Army West Point, Nebraska-Omaha and Minnesota.
