Knights Nearly Double Up Morrisville in Season-Opener

Oswego, NY - Holding the opponents without a field goal in the first quarter and tossing in 25 points in the opening 10 minutes, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team ran away from SUNY Morrisville in its season-opener, beating the Mustangs 65-33 at the Max Ziel Tournament on the campus of Oswego State.

The Golden Knights will face either Oswego State or Wisconsin-Superior in the championship game of the tournament at 3:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson shot 11-for-21 in the first quarter, making a trio of 3-pointers while holding Morrisville to an 0-for-10 run from the field and just three free throws for a 25-3 edge out of the gate. Molly Stewart dropped in a layup at the 5:06 mark, giving the Golden Knights a 14-0 lead. About 30 seconds later, the Mustangs finally got on the scoreboard with a pair of free throws, but Morrisville would go without a make until early in the second quarter. Clarkson would never let the Mustangs get close for the remainder of the game, holding a 20-point lead at the half (34-14) with the advantage hovering in the high-20s and low 30s for the remainder of the game.
