Knights Win Fourth Straight in 13-5 Decision Over SUNY Canton

Canton, NY – A dominating effort on both sides of the ball allowed the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team to gain its fourth straight one-sided win, defeating SUNY Canton 13-5 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Golden Knights improved to 7-2 on the season and the Green and Gold will return to conference play this weekend when they travel to Vassar College. SUNY Canton saw its record evened at 3-3.

Though some of the peripheral statistics don't point to an overwhelming effort by the Knights, Clarkson controlled the game for the first 50 minutes of play, especially in the first half. SUNY Canton had trouble getting the ball out of its own end, failing nine times on 14 tries in clear attempts, while Clarkson patiently found enough offense to gain a sizeable advantage at the break. Aubrey Borgesi  scored twice in the first four and a half minutes to put the Knights up 2-0, but it would be another 10 minutes before Clarkson would change the scoreboard. When it did, the goals came much quicker as Clarkson scored five times in less than 12 minutes. If not for a goal with just 14.7 seconds left in the half by the Kangaroos, the Knights would have shut out the home team in the first half.

Clarkson continued to hold possession of the ball in the second half and after its fifth goal of the period forced a running clock with a 10-goal advantage. The Knights would maintain their double-figure lead until the waning moments when SUNY Canton caused a few stoppages with three goals in the final nine minutes once Clarkson's starters were pulled.

Jaid Baytos scored four points on three goals and an assist while both Aubrey Borgesi and Emma Andrews tacked on three goals for the Knights. Katie Sergeant also amassed three points with two goals and an assist and Abby Collins contributed two points on one goal and one assist as well as four groundballs. Baytos claimed five draws and Taylor Collins caused four turnovers and led the team with five groundballs. Samantha Gladd made two saves in 38:26. Emily Fischer came on in relief and played more than 11 minutes and Carolynn Pechmann finished things off by competing in the final 10 minutes.
