Knights Fall at Ithaca, 72-45

Ithaca, NY – A tough shooting night kept the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team from picking up a much needed win as Ithaca College defeated the Golden Knights 72-45 Friday evening.

The Golden Knights dropped to 8-13 overall and 3-11 in the Liberty League, while Ithaca improved to 16-6 and 11-4. Clarkson will take on Union College tomorrow afternoon. The Knights need to win the remaining four games on their schedule to have any chance at gaining a playoff spot.

Clarkson shot just 15-for-60 with five 3-pointers in the game and Ithaca enjoyed success from both the interior (17-for-37, 45.9%) and outside the 3-point arc (9-for-19, 47.4%).

The Golden Knights held a modest lead after a free throw in the first minute, but Julie Yacovoni hit a 3-pointer on Ithaca's first shot of the game and never trailed again. Clarkson pulled to within a point on three occasions in the first quarter, but Ithaca ended the quarter on a 14-2 run to more than double up the Knights through 10 minutes, 25-12.

Back-to-back 3-pointers from Raeanna Dunn and Devin Sorell reduced the margin to seven points (25-18), but the Knights would go more than six minutes without a basket. That scoreless stretch coupled with a last second 3-pointer from Meghan Pickell created a gap of 16 points at the break (38-22).

Intermission did little to quell the Ithaca momentum as the Bombers scored the first nine points of the third quarter before Madison Shea finally converted at the 4:22 mark. The 23-point margin after Shea's make would be as close as Clarkson would get for the remainder of the game.

Shea finished with six points, seven rebounds and five assists for Clarkson while Devin Sorell produced a team-best 15 points. Cassidy O'Malley shot 8-for-12 from the floor to score a game-high 18 points for the Bombers and Yacovoni added 15 points on 5-for-6 shooting.
