Stewart Hits Seven 3-Pointers to Tie School Mark in 80-61 Win Over D'Youville

Buffalo, NY – Junior Molly Stewart tied a single-game program record for the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team by making seven 3-point field goals as the Golden Knights rode her hot hand to an 80-61 victory over D'Youville College on Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Knights moved back to within a game of .500 at 4-5 overall with the win while the Spartans dropped to 4-5. Clarkson will return to conference play this coming weekend when it hosts Vassar College and Bard College.

Stewart scored a career-high 29 points, including 18 in the second half. She went 6-for-8 overall in the final 20 minutes, including 4-for-6 from beyond the 3-point arc. Stewart's seven 3-pointers in the game tied the single-game record for the Knights, matching the efforts of Cara Manfredi (1/17/2015) and former teammate Devin Sorell (11/21/2015 and 12/5/2015).

Clarkson never trailed against the Spartans, falling into a tie just three times in the first quarter before pulling away. Hannah Earl converted a three-point play with a jumper and free throw at the 4:40 mark to put Clarkson up 11-8, and the Knights ended the opening quarter with a four-point lead (15-11).

Rachel Marion buried a 3-pointer on the first possession of the second quarter as Clarkson led by at least five for all but one possession of the remainder of the period. Up by five (25-20), Stewart began her 3-point barrage in the final minutes of the half, hitting a long-range shot at 3:58, 3:25 and 2:11, after opening the game with four misses from distance.

The halftime break did little to cool Stewart off, however, as she opened the third quarter with long-range makes at 9:49, 9:19, and 8:26, putting Clarkson up by 15 points and forcing D'Youville to take a timeout. The Spartans adjusted their game plan to denying Stewart, as she didn't take another shot for the next seven-plus minutes. However, the rest of the Knights were up to the task, as Hannah Earl scored six points in a 9-0 run to give Clarkson a 59-40 edge with a little over two minutes to go in the quarter.

Up by 16 to start the fourth quarter, the Knights scored first and never allowed the gap to fall below 17 points for the rest of the game. The margin expanded to as many as 23 points midway through the quarter when Emma Buonanno finished off a fastbreak with a layup at 5:09.

Stewart scored 29 points on 10-for-20 shooting, including a 7-for-15 effort from the 3-point line despite missing her first four attempts. She also added in eight rebounds. Earl recorded another solid all-around stat line with 16 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. The Golden Knights possessed a 52-37 edge on the glass, getting numerous second chances with 17 offensive rebounds.

For the Spartans, Monica June scored a team-high 16 points on 6-for-13 shooting and Hannah Wozniak added in 12 points. Danielle Hore also produced 11 points and five rebounds.
