Kather Converts Late to Lift Knights to 1-0 Win Over RIT

Potsdam, NY – Looking like it was heading for another tie, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team converted on a turnover  when Madison Kather kicked home the game-winning goal with just 4:23 remaining to lift the Golden Knights to a 1-0 win over RIT in conference action at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights improved to 5-2-3 overall and remained unbeaten in conference matches at 2-0-1, while RIT continued its tough luck in Liberty League games, staying winless at 0-2-1 despite its 6-3-1 overall mark.

The two teams combined for nine shots in the first half, but the Tigers seemed to hold the play with six shots overall, including four that needed to be saved by Elyse Green in the first 18 minutes. The Tigers had another solid opportunity in the 36th minute when Marla Roberts was denied by the crossbar, but the game remained scoreless.

RIT continued to get more chances than Clarkson in the second half, including a stretch with three corner kicks in less than a minute midway through the half. However, the Knights took advantage of an opportunity when it presented itself late in the game. RIT was attempted to clear a ball just outside the penalty area, but it was intercepted by freshman Sarah Duhaime in the midfield. Duhaime then sent a quick pass to Camryn Careccia inside the box for a two-on-one. Careccia took a couple steps and settled the ball for a short pass to Madison Kather in the middle, and the senior was able to sneak a shot past RIT goalkeeper Kelly Rogers for the game's lone goal in the 86th minute. For the final four-plus minutes Clarkson was able to tame the Tigers by now allowing a shot or a corner kick chance.

Elyse Green finished with eight saves for her fourth shutout of the season, while Kelly Rogers made two saves for RIT. RIT finished with a 12-4 advantage in shots and a 10-0 edge in corner kick chances.
