Duclos Leads Clarkson Charge at Saratoga Invitational

Saratoga, NY – Junior Sarah Duclos took 24th overall for the Clarkson University Cross Country team as both the women and men finished in the top 10 team scores within a deep field on Saturday at the Saratoga Cross Country Invitational hosted by Rensselaer.

The Golden Knights' women placed eighth among 17 teams with a score of 239, trailing Bates (36), Rensselaer (69), Plattsburgh State (106), Vassar (124), New Paltz (140), Hamilton (156), and Stevens Institute of Technology (178), but ahead of the Coast Guard Academy (240), Wheaton (260), Nazareth (332), Saint Rose (332), Babson (333), St. John Fisher (349), Sage (486), Potsdam State (513) and Hartwick (528). Clarkson's men were also in the middle of the pack, taking the ninth spot out of 16 squads, behind Rensselaer (37), Bates (54), Vassar (116), Plattsburgh State (139), Stevens Institute of Technology (161), Hamilton (163), Babson (180), and the Coast Guard Academy (204). The Golden Knights' men recorded 276 points, better than St. John Fisher (310), New Paltz (321), Wheaton (349), Potsdam State (374), Nazareth (399), Saint Rose (417), and Hartwick (490).

Duclos came in 24th out of 221 runners overall, and 212 collegiate runners, finishing the 5,000-meter event with a time of 18 minutes, 39.4 seconds. Senior Abigail Sullivan was 49th out of the college runners in 19:05.0 (50th overall) and junior Alison Davis was close behind in 53rd (54th overall) with a time of 19:07.4. Erika Abrantes (64th/65th, 19:19.8) and Taylor Lacey (74th/76th, 19:28.7) rounded out Clarkson's scoring five.

Clarkson's men didn't fare quite as well, but still performed well with three runners in the top 100. Senior AJ Beers led the way for Clarkson, finishing the 8,000-meter race in 26:58.3, good enough for 57th among college runners and 61st overall (213 college runners participated, 235 runners overall). Classmate Kris Lizins came in 66th (71st) in 27:07.5 and fellow senior Jacob Erdman took 77th (83rd) in 27:19.4. Dennis Mooney took 100th among the collegiate runners (109th overall) in 27:48.1 and Austin Smith was just four seconds behind in 27:52.8, finishing 105th (114th).
