Hart Headed to Salem for Reese's D3 All-Star Game

Thanks to strong support from Monday to Wednesday, senior Derek Hart of the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team will be headed to Salem, VA to play in the 2017 Reese's® Division III College All-Star Game on Saturday, March 18th.

Eight finalists, one from each region in NCAA Division III, were selected for an on-line vote from Monday at noon to Wednesday at noon and Hart dominated the tabulations from start to finish. More than 71,000 votes were cast, and Hart was the choice for more than 35% of the voters with 25,034 votes, the second highest in the seven-year history of the selection process.

"I couldn't be happier for Derek for the opportunity to show his ability on a national stage such as this," Clarkson Men's Basketball head coach Jeff Gorski said. "But what makes me happier is how the Clarkson community rallied around him and gave him the chance to play in this game. Clarkson University has only a few thousand students, but more than 40,000 living alumni, and we couldn't have done this without their tireless effort over that 48-hour stretch. It truly is a testament to the family atmosphere that Clarkson creates for its student-athletes that he was able to tally more than 25,000 votes, and I'm thrilled that the rest of the Division III world will be able to see what kind of player Derek has become."

In addition to his selection for the Reese's® Division III College All-Star Game, Hart was chosen as the ECAC North Player of the Year and an ECAC North First-Team All-Star on Thursday morning. Two weeks ago he was picked unanimously as a Liberty League First-Team All-Star. Hart broke Clarkson's single-season scoring record (554), a mark that stood for nearly 60 years, and had the highest scoring average in Liberty League history (since the league rebranded itself in 2004-05). He ranked in the top 25 nationally in points per game (22.2 ppg), field goals made (219) and field goal percentage (63.8%).

The game will be streamed live on d3hoops.com.
