Clarkson Cross Country Teams Take 6th at Liberty League Championships

Poughkeepsie, NY – As they have nearly all year, senior AJ Beers and junior Sarah Duclos highlighted the Clarkson University Cross Country team's effort at the Liberty League Championships on Saturday, as each finished in the top 30 at the annual conference meet.

The Golden Knights' men finished sixth among nine teams with 161 points, trailing Rensselaer (38), St. Lawrence (51), RIT (85), Ithaca (99), and Vassar (119), but ahead of Hobart (220), Union (222) and Bard (293). Clarkson's women came in sixth among eight complete teams with 173 points of their own, behind Ithaca (45), St. Lawrence (47), Rensselaer (55), RIT (93), Vassar (110) and ahead of William Smith (221), Union (253) and Bard (incomplete).

In the men's 8,000-meter event, Beers paced the Knights with a time of 27 minutes, 3.5 seconds, good enough for 28th among the 138 runners. Three more Clarkson runners crossed the finish line in the next 32 seconds, including senior Jacob Erdman, who came in 32nd in 27:10.9, junior Austin Smith, who placed 35th in 27:18.6, and senior Kris Lizins, who took 42nd in 27:35.0. Clarkson's scoring didn't round out until junior Paul Moore crossed the line at 28:12.6, coming in 63rd for the Knights. The next two runners for Clarkson buoyed the Knights positioning in case of disqualifications, as Dennis Mooney came in 71st (28:21.5) and Colin Rooney placed 82nd (28:45.1).

Sarah Duclos had the best finish of the day on either side for Clarkson, coming in 24th out of 120 runners in the women's 6,000-meter race. Her time of 24:01.9 was 17-plus seconds ahead of Clarkson's next runner, classmate Alison Davis, who came in 32nd in 24:19.2. Senior Abigail Sullivan came in 46th in 24:58.6 and was closely followed by senior Christina Tricomi 10 seconds later, as she took 53rd in 25:08.9. Sophomore Taylor Lacey then closed out the Clarkson scoring by taking 58th in 25:21.4, while juniors Katie Ackner (60th, 25:23.9) and Hannah Phillips (77th, 26:31.0) rounded out the Knights' top seven.
