Duclos and Beers Lead Dominant Effort by Knights at CCOC

Geneva, NY – For years the Clarkson University Cross Country team has shown well at the annual Cross Country-Only Championships, but the Golden Knights enjoyed their most overwhelming effort ever on Saturday at Lake Seneca State Park, taking top honors in both the men's and women's team results.

The Golden Knights' women could not have scored any lower, finishing with just 15 points among 11 teams, ahead of William Smith (67), Cazenovia (108), D'Youville (147), Keuka (171), Medaille (177), Hartwick (198), Morrisville State (201), Elmira (217), SUNY Canton (240), and Wells (267), as well as two incomplete teams. The Clarkson men nearly matched the effort with 16 points, topping Hobart (58), Wells (134), Paul Smith's (141), SUNY Canton (153), Hartwick (174), D'Youville (181), Elmira (181), Morrisville State (211), Cazenovia (226), Keuka (270), Medaille (313).

Junior Sarah Duclos won the CCOC title for the second time in three years, pacing the group of 112 runners with a time of 24 minutes, 39.4 seconds on the 6,000-meter course. The Golden Knights closed out the top five to record the best score possible. Senior Abigail Sullivan was a little less than six seconds behind Duclos in 24:45.2, while sophomore Erika Abrantes finished third in 25:09.8. Junior Alison Davis took fourth in 25:26.8 and sophomore Taylor Lacey claimed the fifth spot in 25:43.2. Clarkson's reserve runners still would have made it an easy win for the Knights, with Katie Ackner coming in ninth in 26:13.9 and Hannah Phillips taking 12th in 26:22.0.

Clarkson's men couldn't quite match the women's rate of finish, but had the top four runners and the sixth place runner as well to score 16 points. Senior AJ Beers won the 8,000-meter race, finishing first among 105 competitors with a time of 27:15.8. Classmate Jacob Erdman came in second in 27:25.4 and fellow senior Kris Lizins placed third in 27:49.1. Junior Austin Smith then followed in fourth with a time of 27:52.6 and Paul Moore came in sixth in 28:08.7. Dennis Mooney (28:35.7) and Collin Rooney (28:57.9) finished in eighth and 10th, respectively, to give Clarkson seven runners in the top 10.
