CU Women's Lax Wins Handily for Fourth Straight Game

Canton, NY - With seven goals and a shutout in the first half, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team cruised to its fourth straight lopsided win and fifth overall with a dominating 9-1 performance against SUNY Canton Wednesday night.

The Golden Knights moved to 5-1 overall and will continue non-conference play this weekend when the team hosts Morrisville State on Saturday. SUNY Canton saw its record evened at 3-3.

It took little time for the Knights to jump out ahead, as Christine Wright found Kate Dillon only 97 seconds into the contest. What turned out to be the game-winning goal came at the 27:07 mark when Wright assisted on an Ashley Flick goal as Clarkson's defense was more than up to task in shutting down the Kangaroos offense. SUNY Canton's Robyn Carroll entered the game accounting for nearly 60 percent of the team's goals, but was held to just two shots in the entire game as Clarkson supplied a suffocating defense that gave up only eight shots to the Roos. It took more than 40 minutes for SUNY Canton to finally get on the scoreboard, and that one tally was all that the Roos would get, while Clarkson tacked on two more goals in the final 13 minutes from Taylor Kwiek and Stephanie Lynch for a 9-1 final.

Christine Wright finished with five points, scoring twice and assisting on three other goals, while Kate Dillon finished with three goals and an assist. Taylor Collins had two points with a goal and an assist, but also recorded six groundballs and won three draws. Ashley Flick also scored once and assisted once. Samantha Gladd finished with five saves and allowed just the single goal in 60 minutes. Becca Kieffer made seven saves for SUNY Canton.

Clarkson finished the game with a 20-8 edge in shots, a 21-16 advantage in groundballs, and won nine of the 12 draw controls in the game. The Knights also forced SUNY Canton to commit 21 turnovers.
