CU Men's Lacrosse Falls Short Against 10th-Ranked Nazareth

Tampa, FL – With twelve goals in the first half Nazareth College gave itself a solid cushion through 30 minutes and the Golden Flyers cruised through the second half to claim a 17-7 win over the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights fell to 1-3 overall with their third straight loss, while number-10 Nazareth improved to 4-0. Clarkson will face Geneseo State on Wednesday.

Junior Ryan St. Croix scored first for Clarkson, giving the Knights a 1-0 lead after just 1:50, but Nazareth scored six straight goals to end the period with Luke Wooters tallying three straight to end the frame, including one with just one second left on the clock. Nazareth maintained its momentum in the second quarter, scoring the next four goals to push the run to 10 (with eight coming in a stretch of 7:40 overlapping the two periods). Scott Dosser and St. Croix broke the run and pulled the Knights back to within seven, but that was a close as Clarkson would get.

Starting the third quarter, the Golden Flyers scored four straight before Sam Groves produced his first goal of the season for the Knights at the 5:31 mark. At that point, however, Nazareth just needed to run out the final 20 minutes to gain the win.

St. Croix scored three times and Dosser scored twice to lead the Knights, with Groves and Ryan DaRin each adding a goal. J.R. Campbell assisted on the final two goals of the contest for Clarkson. Keith Mierzwa led the Knights with four groundballs and four caused turnovers, and Nick Strandholm made 10 saves in the Clarkson crease.

Wooters produced 10 points on five goals and five assists for the Flyers and Troy Haefele added eight points on six goals and two assists. Hunter Burdick scored four points on two goals and two assists and Paul Walter also scored twice and assisted on another goal. Seth DeLisle led all players with eight groundballs.

Nazareth finished the game with a 44-34 advantage in shots and the Golden Flyers won the advantage on 18 of the 26 faceoffs.
