Clarkson Men Skate to 1-1 Draw at #2-Ranked Quinnipiac

In handing the 2nd/3rd-ranked team in the country its first blemish of the season, the Clarkson University Hockey team gave Quinnipiac all it could handle, skating to a 1-1 overtime draw with the undefeated Bobcats in ECAC Hockey action Friday night in Hamden, CT.
 
The Golden Knights, ranked 20th in the nation, will look to carry over their strong effort into Saturday's 7:00 p.m. game at Princeton. Clarkson owns a 5-3-2 overall record and a 0-2-2 ECAC Hockey mark.

Making his first appearance of the season, senior goaltender Greg Lewis made 33 saves as Quinnipiac (11-0-1, 4-0-1) outshot the Green and Gold 34-26.
 
Sophomore Nic Pierog gave Clarkson a 1-0 first period lead with his second goal of the season. At 16:39, Pierog took a pass from classmate Janick Asselin and connected on a backhand shot from the top of the crease to put the Green and Gold on top. Sophomore center Brett Gervais also assisted.
 
After a scoreless second period, the high-flying Bobcats, who boasted the nation's top-scoring offense, averaging 4.64 goals per game, finally got on the scoreboard early in the third stanza. Luke Shiplo's shot from the point found its way through a maze of players in front and past Lewis for the tying score at 4:37.
 
That was all either team would score through the remainder of regulation and overtime. Lewis posted four stops in the five-minute extra session.
 
The Knights were 0-of-5 on the power play, but held Quinnipiac's top-rated unit scoreless in all five of its man-advantage attempts.
 
Michael Garteig turned aside 25 shots for the Bobcats, including one save in overtime. 

Clarkson controlled faceoffs, winning 32-of-27 draws.
