Clarkson Impressive in 5-2 Win at Dartmouth

Junior goaltender Greg Lewis (Mars, PA) was strong in the crease with 34 saves and five Golden Knights, including three freshmen, accounted for the goals in a balanced effort as the Clarkson University Hockey team enjoyed its most productive offensive night of the season in defeating Dartmouth College 5-2 at Thompson Arena in Hanover, NH on Saturday.

Clarkson, which begins a five-game home stand next weekend, improves to 8-11-4 overall and moves to over .500 in ECAC Hockey with a 5-4-2 conference mark.

Junior Jeff DiNallo (Aurora, ONT) tallied a goal and two assists for a career-high three points, and sophomore defenseman James de Haas (Mississauga, ONT) scored the game-winner and picked up an assist from the blueline as the Golden Knights snapped a three-game ECAC Hockey losing skid for its first road victory since the December 6 win at St. Lawrence. Rookies Kelly Summers (Golden Lake, ONT), Janick Asselin (Coaticook, QUE) and Sam Vigneault (Baie-Comeau, QUE) also scored.

The Green and Gold closed out a strong weekend in specialty teams play. The Knights scored two power-play goals for the first time this season (2-of-5) and shut down all four of Dartmouth's man-advantage opportunities, including a key kill when the Big Green were on a 5-on-3 for about a minute midway through the second period right after they had scored two quick goals to tie the game. Friday night at Harvard, Clarkson was 1-of-3 on the power play and held the Crimson scoreless in their four chances.

Dartmouth (6-8-3, 3-6-1) outshot the Knights 36-31.

Making his first appearance in ECAC Hockey play this year and only second start of the season, Lewis was strong from the start with 14 first-period saves as Clarkson took a 1-0 lead through the opening 20 minutes.

Summers tallied his third goal of the season late in the period, connecting for a power-play goal from the left circle at 18:21 with de Haas and DiNallo assisting.

The Knights made it 2-0 early in the middle frame when Asselin knocked in rebound off sophomore Pat Megannety's (Oakville, ONT) shot at 1:52 for his first goal as a Golden Knight.

Dartmouth got on the scoreboard at 7:25 when Tyler Sikura's shot squirted past Lewis at the near post. The Big Green tied the contest midway through the stanza when a Dartmouth shot was redirected in by an errant Clarkson stick during a delayed penalty. Rick Pinkston was credited with the goal at 12:15 to make it 2-2 through 40 minutes.

Clarkson, which got its first third-period goal in ECAC Hockey play this season Friday at Harvard, tallied twice in a span of 46 seconds to regain the lead early in the final frame. de Hass scored on a wrist shot from the high slot eight seconds into power play. Asselin and DiNallo assisted on the game-winner at 7:47.

Vigneault connected on a high shot at 8:33 for his second goal of the weekend and fourth of the season. Sophomores A.J. Fossen (Maple Grove, MN) and Perry D'Arrisso (Mississauga, ONT) recorded the assists.
