Wilmington, NY - Hosting the third event of the season, the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team wasn't particularly hospitable to its guests as three Golden Knight skiers won all but one of the events this weekend at the Clarkson Invitational, held at Whiteface Mountain.
The Golden Knights cruised to wins in both the giant slalom and slalom events on both the men's and women's sides as Clarkson remained unbeaten in USCSA Adirondack Division action.
Sophomore JP Phaneuf (Montreal, QUE) was the top performer for Clarkson over the weekend, winning the giant slalom with a pair of runs that combined for a time of 1:40.23, and then finishing second in the slalom on Sunday in 1:41.43. Freshman David Simon (Montvale, NJ) was the only competitor to top Phaneauf on Sunday, finishing the slalom in 1:38.61 after finishing fifth in the giant slalom on day one. Sophomore Cedrik Proteau-Dubois (Ste-Adele, QUE) didn't finish the giant slalom, but ended up in third in the slalom on Sunday. Other top performers for the Knights' men's team were senior Drew Bonner (Killington, VT), who came in fourth in the giant slalom on Saturday, sophomore Bill O'Connor (Mahopac, NY), who finished fourth in the slalon on Sunday, and sophomore Connor O'Toole (Owasco, NY), who placed seventh in the giant slalom.
For the women, sophomore Jill Clevenger (LaGrangeville, NY) matched the performance of Phaneauf, winning the slalom on Sunday in 1:57.57 after placing second in the giant slalom in 1:51.96. Junior Meghan Cleason (Canandaigua, NY) also was a consistent performer for the Knights, coming in third in the giant slalom (1:54.82) and fourth in the slalom (2:02.90), while freshman Katherine Jondro (Waitsfield, VT) had an excellent weekend, too, coming in fourth in the giant (1:56.09) and sixth in the slalom (2:08.84). Senior Emma Masur (Wayne, NJ) also finished 14th in the giant slalom (2:08.68).
