The Clarkson University Men’s Lacrosse team built up a sizeable lead at the half and then held on over the final 30 minutes to post a 10-7 victory over Montclair State in its final game of the spring trip down south in Orlando, FL.
Senior attackman Tom Ross (Adams, NY) paced the Clarkson offense with four goals. Classmate Greg Gibbons (Baldwinsville, NY) tallied three goals and one assist.
The Golden Knights improved a 3-2 first-quarter lead into an 8-3 advantage at the half, but managed only two goals over the final two quarters. The Red Hawks (4-3), who scored once in the third, tallied the only three goals of the final stanza to make the game close.
Senior Brian Hoey (Auburn, NY) recorded one goal and two assists to join Clarkson’s career 100-point club. Freshman Bryan Huff (Hillsborough, NJ) also tallied two points (1-1).
Freshman Matt Cyr (Cheshire, CT) chipped in one goal, while sophomore Tyler Long (Liverpool, NY) and Jon Frugal (New Hartford, NY) both picked up one assist.
Clarkson enjoyed a distinct advantage in shots, 37-17, and ground balls, 46-30. Senior John Svoren (Hamburg, NY) went the distance in the Knights’ goal, making seven saves. Cyr recorded a game-high five ground balls.
At 3-2, Clarkson resumes play on Wednesday when it hosts RIT at SUNY Canton in a 4:00 p.m. contest.
