Clinton, NY - Falling behind early, the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team could not overcome a slow start against Hamilton Friday night, as the Golden Knights dropped a 76-62 Liberty League decision against the Continentals.
The Golden Knights fell to 13-9 overall and 4-7 in conference games while Hamilton clinched a conference post-season slot, moving to 15-5 and 9-1 in league contests.a
Hamilton jumped out to a seven point lead in the first three minutes, keyed by a 3-pointer by Harlee Wood. Though Clarkson ended the mini-run with a basket, the Knights were unable to slow down the Continentals. Hamilton pushed its lead to double figures on several occasions throughout the half, with Clarkson coming within eight on a few occasions before settling behind by 13 points at the break.
The second half was equally unkind to the Knights as the team was unable to get much going offensively and struggled on the glass against the Continentals. Hamilton finished with a 43-26 edge in rebounds, and the Continentals shot 49.1 percent from the floor for the game while Clarkson was just 38.6 percent from the field.
Senior guard Brian Salanger (Syracuse, NY) scored a game-high 15 points, but was the only Clarkson player to record double figures. Sophomore guard Nik Marquis (Irvington, NJ) had nine points and four assists off the bench for the Knights.
The Continentals had four players in double figures, led by Patrick Sullivan's 14 points. Jay Simpson and Harlee Wood each ended with 12 points, and Lance Wilson produced 11 points.
