Whiteface Mountain - After an uncharacteristically disappointing finish last weekend, the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team found itself back where it belongs, sweeping through the USCSA Adirondack Division competition with a victory at the Clarkson Invitational.
On the women's side, freshman Meghan Cleason (Canandaigua, NY) claimed the combined title with first place finishes in both the giant slalom and slalom, while senior Mallory Gilmore (Woodbury, CT) placed third overall with a second place showing in the slalom and a seventh-place finish in the giant event. Senior Margot Epstein (Sodus, NY) finished just outside the top three by finishing second in the giant slalom and eighth in the slalom. Sophomore Emma Masur (Wayne, NJ) came in 13th in the slalom and 14th in the giant.
The men were even more dominant by placing the top three overall finishers. Senior Kurt Naser (Arlington, MA) was the top combined performer with a first-place finish in the slaom and a second-place showing in the giant slalom. Sophomore Drew Bonner (Killington, VT) was just behind Naser, winning the giant slalom and coming in second in the slalom. Freshman Clayton Reynolds (Rome, NY) rounded out the top three combined standings with a third in the giant slalom and a fourth in the slalom. Sophomore Nick Skowyra (St. Paul, MN) and freshman Corey Vanlare (Fairport, NY) also performed well, coming in fifth in the slalom and eighth in the giant slalom, respectively.
