Clarkson Drops Second Game at Colorado College

February 2, 2008

The Clarkson University Hockey team’s trip out West did not go as planned as the Golden Knights suffered two losses at 6th-ranked Colorado College, including a 6-1 setback on Saturday.

The Golden Knights, who entered the weekend ranked 10th in the country, lost to the WCHA-leading Tigers 5-2 on Friday at the World Arena in Colorado Springs.

Owning a 15-9-2 overall record, Clarkson will return to ECAC Hockey play this coming weekend when it hosts Central NY rivals Cornell and Colgate at Cheel Arena. With eight games remaining in the regular season, the Knights stand in first place in ECAC Hockey owning a 10-3-1 league mark, two points ahead of second-place Cornell.

Colorado College (20-7-1), which improved its record at World Arena to 13-0-0, took a 2-0 first-period lead and held a 5-0 advantage through 40 minutes.

Junior defenseman Tyrell Mason (Dawson Creek, BC) scored Clarkson’s lone goal on Saturday, recording his first goal of the season, unassisted, 56 seconds into the third.

Clarkson went scoreless in its only power-play chance, while Colorado College connected for two goals in seven man-advantage opportunities.
