Late Spurt Sends Knights to Third Straight Defeat at NYU

New York, NY - After an even first half and staying close in the second, New York University used a 17-4 run to close out the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team 65-44 in non-league action Tuesday night at Coles Sports Center.

The Golden Knights dropped to 2-8 overall while the Violets improved to 8-2 with their seventh straight win. Clarkson closes out its non-league schedule on Saturday when it visits Elmira College. 

After the Golden Knights pulled within 48-41 with on a lay-up by Brandon Rigg-Reives (Elmont, NY) with 4:36 remaining, NYU got three-pointers from sophomore forward Zachary Kuba and Richie Polan on consecutive possessions to claim a 54-41 advantage with 3:08 remaining. From there, freshman guard D.J. Glavan scored six straight points to stake the Violets to a 60-44 lead with 1:31 remaining.

NYU, which led just 26-24 at the break, shot 47.8% (22-for-46), including 36.4% (8-for-22) from downtown, while hitting 72.2% (13-for-18) of its tries from the free throw line. Clarkson struggled in the second half after shooting 11-for-24 in the opening 20 minutes, making only seven of its 22 shots in the second half. 

Brandon Linton (Queens, NY) led the Knights with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Ryan Smith (Niagara Falls, NY), Elson Pickering (Brooklyn, NY) and Jonathan Hood (Cortlandt Manor, NY) all contributed six points.
