Burlington, VT - Sophomore Britney Selina (Thornhill, ONT) scored twice and added an assist for a five-point weekend as the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team beat Vermont for the second straight day, this time 3-1 in non-league action on Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Knights fourth straight victory pushes them to 14-4-2 on the season while Vermont dropped to 4-13-1. Clarkson returns to ECAC Hockey action next weekend when it hosts league rivals Dartmouth and Harvard, the only two teams to have beaten the Knights since October, a span of 13 contests.
After falling behind by a goal to the Catamounts in the first period, the Knights scored three straight goals to pick up the win. Two power-play markers in the second period highlighted the middle frame for the Knights as Selina scored her 10th from Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) and Amanda Dittmer (Chatham, ONT) at 7:11. Waldie tallied seven minutes later with another man-advantage score as Selina earned the assist.
The Knights iced the game with an even-strength goal by Selina, her 11th of the campaign, midway through the third period. Waldie and Dittmer also assisted on the final goal. Along with Selina, Waldie also compiled five points on the weekend, and Dittmer recorded three assists over the two games.
Freshman Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) made 18 saves to pick up her sixth victory of the season. Kristen Olychuck made 34 saves for Vermont, as Clarkson held a 37-19 edge in shots after only holding a six-shot lead on Saturday.
The Knights went 2-for-5 on the power play and Vermont was 1-for-4 while having the benefit of an extra skater.
