Potsdam, NY – It took nearly 260 minutes, but the Clarkson University Women’s Soccer team finally got on the scoreboard in 2007, and the goal couldn’t have come at a more opportune time as freshman Ariana Czech (Big Bear City, CA) tallied her first career goal on her first shot to help the Golden Knights recover for a 1-1 tie against RIT on Saturday afternoon at Clarkson Field.

The Golden Knights moved to 0-2-1 on the season while the Tigers went to 2-1-1. Clarkson returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Plattsburgh. The Green and Gold will come back home next Saturday when they host Hilbert.

The two teams played even for the first 15 minutes of the game, but then RIT took control of the game and quickly got on the scoreboard. RIT’s Morgan Eastlack put the Tigers up 1-0 when she sent a low groundball from the top of the penalty box that made its way to the other side of the goal at the 21:02 mark of the first half. Neither team produced any significant scoring chances for the remainder of the half.

In the second half, Clarkson evened up the play again and had a flurry of shots in the first 15 minutes. The Golden Knights looked ready to pick up the equalizer on a corner kick midway through the second half when Catie Reed (Lafayette, NY) sent a soaring ball to the other side of the box. Both Jill Collins (Potsdam, NY) and Beth Stubbe (East Amherst, NY) each too shots in close that were stopped and Ellie Wade (Litchfield, CT) followed with a blast from 10 yards away that barely missed the crossbar on its way out of bounds.

Clarkson finally tied the score 1-1 with when Ariana Czech ended Clarkson’s season-long scoring drought at 79:29. Jill Collins popped a pass over the defense from the midfield line to Czech, who barely stayed onside but easily beat her defender for a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. About 10 yards away, Czech hit her shot in to the corner to tie the contest.

A pair of scoreless, 10-minute overtimes was played before the game ended 1-1.

The Tigers out shot Clarkson 14-10 in the contest and held a slim 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Meagan Emlaw (Norfolk, NY) made six saves for Clarkson, continuing her strong start to the season. Ashley Conti made a season-high five saves for RIT.
