With the Rocky mountain National Park in the background, the Clarkson University Nordic Ski team competed in the United States Collegiate Ski Association (USCSA) National Championship near Winter Park, Colorado during the week of March 5 - 9.
Despite the challenge of competing at 8,800 feet, both the Golden Knights men’s and women’s teams skied to fourth place overall in the team standings.
Several highlights included freshman Matt Delaney (Lake Placid, NY) becoming the National champion in the sprint competition, which helped the team have the best score for the day in the sprints.
Also, senior Chad Day (Honeoye Falls, NY) (11th), junior Justin Tetlow (Fairport, NY) (14th) and freshman Drew Moskevitz (Enosburgh Falls, VT) (16th) finished in the top 16 in the overall individual standings.
Junior Whitney Olson (Scotia, NY) skied to a very impressive fifth overall with a best finish of fourth in the 8.5k classic race to lead the Clarkson women. All four of the Golden Knights finished in the top 17 of the individual standings. Junior Sarah Gardner (Auburn, ME) placed 12th, followed by senior Janine Laskoski (Scotia, NY) in 15th and sophomore Chelsea Reynolds (Endicott, NY) in 17th.
The hard week of racing was capped with the Clarkson men winning the Presidential Cup along with the alpine team for best combined score of the two disciplines.
