Another strong showing by the Golden Knights Nordic Ski teams led both the men’s and women’s squads to first-place at the Clarkson Invitational held at Prospect Mountain in Woodford, VT over the weekend.
The Clarkson men finished with 10 points to edge Cornell in the seven team invitational. Freshman Matt Delaney (Lake Placid, NY) won the 8.5k freestyle event on Saturday morning with a time of 24:04. Senior Chad Day (Honeoye Falls, NY) placed third (25:10). Freshman Drew Moskevitz (Enosburgh Falls, VT) came in fifth (26:25), edging out a Cornell skier to provide the margin of victory for the Green and Gold.
Junior Whitney Olson (Scotia, NY) paced the Clarkson women to first place (8 points), easily out-distancing second-place Hamilton (27 points) in the seven-team race. Olson finished with a winning time of 30:30 in the 8.5k freestyle competition.
Junior Sarah Gardner (Auburn, ME) finished second (31:40), followed by senior Janine Laskoski (Scotia, NY) in fifth (33:06) and sophomore Chelsea Reynolds in sixth (34:56).
In Sunday’s 3x4.25 mixed classical relay, the Golden Knights team of Day, Delaney and Olson took the top spot with a winning time, by more than one minute over second-place, Cornell of 45:27.
Clarkson competes next weekend, on February 18, at the Keskinada International race in Gatineau Park, Quebec.
