Cazenovia, NY - Junior Elson Pickering (Brooklyn, NY) recorded his third-straight 20-point game with a career-high 27 points, but the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team suffered its fourth loss of the season with a 86-74 defeat against Cazenovia, thanks to a 36-17 run by the Wildcats in the final 11 minutes.
The Golden Knights fell to 1-4 overall on the season, having lost four straight games, while Cazenovia moved to 1-2. Clarkson returns to action on Tuesday against 11th-ranked Plattsburgh State.
Clarkson shot 51.7 percent (15-for-29) from the floor in the first half and enjoyed a seven-point lead at the conclusion of 20 minutes, and the Knights held that lead for the first nine minutes of the second half. However, Cazenovia's offense erupted in the last 11 minutes of the game, scoring 36 points to Clarkson's 17. The Wildcats' Stephen Harris shot 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final 42 seconds to claim the game for Cazenovia.
Pickering's 27 points represented a career-high, as did his 14 rebounds. The junior forward also shot 12-for-17 from the field and made two of his three 3-point field goal attempts. The only other Clarkson player to reach double-figures for points was freshman Jonathan Hood (Cortlandt Manor, NY), who tallied 10 points in 12 minutes.
Four players reached double digits for Cazenovia, led by Eric Latendress's 22 points. Erik Sauer and Lamin Zulu each added 17 and Harris tossed in 12 points to go along with 5 assists.
